We are very proud of The Feminist Shop and have spent lots of hours researching ethical products that share our values.
This industry, per se, is not the nicest for the planet and we are aware, but we have done our homework and make our choices in a way that limit the impact we have, and yes, those choices went directly against the margins, but we wouldn’t have had it any other way.
All our products are print on demand, which means that we don’t produce anything unless is already bought, that way we avoid wastage of resources and unnecessary pollution. We refuse to be part of an unsustainable system based in a toxic cycle of generating a demand to get rid of premade things that allows cheaper bulk orders, at the expense of worse labour conditions and more environmental impact. Until somebody buys it it doesn’t need to exist.
All our products are also drop shipped, it means that our providers will send them directly to you, instead of doing an unnecessary stop through us that would only multiply the carbon footprint of the delivery.
That means that we can´t offer you next day deliver, because every order is printed specially for you, but we are doing our best to get your lovely goods to you as soon as possible in the most sustainable way. Bear with us, is for the right reasons!
Our apparel is from Continental Clothing; they have been running a pro-active social responsibility programme as a member of Fair Wear Foundation and are regularly audited for social compliance as well as running active monitoring programmes.
Also, all our products are chosen from their EarthPositive® range with their carbon footprint being reduced by around 90% through a combination of innovative product design, low impact organic agriculture, efficiency in manufacturing, and by replacing standard grid electricity with renewable wind power. They do not use carbon offsets and their footprint calculations are certified by the Carbon Trust Certifications in the U.K.
Our mugs and bottles of water are made in china but under audited ethical conditions matching our values. Because we don't want to do good things only, we also want to do them well.
So, we have made sure that our provider don't use child labour or forced labour. That there are legal labour contracts, with a payment of living wage and safe and healthy working conditions, including no excessive hours of work, no discrimination against employees and freedom of association and the right to collective bargaining.
Even the inks we use to print our products are considered Eco-Friendly and are 100% Vegan! With No Toxins in the Inks, no animal by-products used to create them, and not tested on animals. They are safe for use on products for both adults and children and they are OEKO-TEX® certified.
