The Feminist Hub

We still need to celebrate International Women's Day with passion. We need to make all the angry demands, but also all the celebratory acts around it. We need to shine light on the problems, and sometimes it's not only about demanding but about highlighting, sometimes it is about giving a voice and the stage to women and letting them have a fair share of applause of their own. It is the combination of all the above, the demands, the positive discrimination, the safe spaces, the marches, the strikes... that will amplify the effect of the message.

Virginia is co-founder of The Feminist Shop - read her interview here and find out what makes her tick (aka what pisses her off). Learn a bit more about why she started the brand and why she wants to keep starting so many more conversations around feminism!

Feminism is about choices. It is about informed choices. It is about socially respected and supported decisions made by women.

Breastfeeding is a personal decision. It's something that a woman decides to do, or not to do, with her body. But how to nourish your baby is a decision that is not informed enough, not respected enough and not supported enough.

Jennie Wallace is the Co-founder of Breastival, the Movement that wants to change the way breastfeeding is perceived in Northern Ireland and support mums in their experience. Insight of her vision and her feminist thoughts.

We need to talk about periods the same we talk about any other reality of our natural bodies, from farting to headaches, from brushing our teeth to having to pee badly. Although that also highlights the problem that firstly women have to be portrayed as humans with all the needs and the bodily functions and yet can't if they want to be perceived as sexy - which we all know is the *only* goal of our existence.

In our first interview on the blog we get to know more about Katrina McDonnell, founder of Homeless Period Belfast.

Kids get so many mixed messages – we want them to be strong, independent and clever…but even in this day and age we are STILL guilty of gender stereotyping, of putting them in boxes by the way we talk to them, dress them…and we need to do MORE. Being a parent is hard, but if we want kids to be kind, strong and capable we need to do better.

Christmas is officially here, and it is a extrange period in which people tend to suddenly travel back in time and with the excuse of "tradition" allow things to happen that they would never allow otherwise.

It is a bit of a trap, but here are our 10  tips to add feminism to the festivities!

Here you'll find out recommendations of our favourite feminist kids books - because it is never too early to bring feminism to their lives, in the shape of female role models, or tools for critical thinking. Books are such a pleasurable thing to buy and to gift and studies show an unequal representation of gender in children's books (both in terms presence and roles), so choosing the right one is so important.
We want to praise and shout from the rooftops about the amazing pacific protest started and made viral by the feminist collective 'La Tesis' in Chile. It seems to be the perfect hymn for the #metoo era, it replicates that same awareness, the same strong peaceful activism, the same recognition amongst women all over the world of the need to stand up together. So sing it, dance it, and smile when doing so because you are not alone and you are not the only one singing it, right now!
