Black Friday is just two weeks away, and I’m stuck in a bit of a dilemma. On one hand, I know we need sales to survive (and hopefully thrive), but on the other hand, nothing about the typical Black Friday tactics feels quite right for us.

 

So, I’m writing to you honestly, because you deserve the "behind the scenes"

 

We never wanted to be a typical retailer. We don’t inflate prices just to discount them, and our margins are already tight. We don't bulk produce things, awful for the environment, and then feel forced to get rid of them at lower prices. We sell at prices that allow us to stay true to our values: ethical products, supporting ethical companies, and using sustainable print-on-demand and drop-shipping methods.

 

Experts say that Black Friday sales are a must, but I don’t want to jump on the bandwagon just to push discounts. I want people (you!) to shop with us because you believe in what we do and love our products.

 

I’ve also considered running a campaign like "10% of all Black Friday sales will go to XYZ cause" but I’ve been reading about the ethical implications of those “urgency” strategies when capitalising with others pain. Please do donate, we do too regularly, and have even done so from the beginning. But if the reason to buy from us is the percentage donated you probably are better off donating instead of buying.
